December 2009: Hanaa successfully defends her PhD thesis at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt!

December 2009: Hanaa’s article on the reaction of R2N-NONOates with aquacobalamin is published in Angew. Chemie (Angew. Chemie Int. Ed., 2009, 48 (47), 8909).

November 2009: Undergraduate student Noah Plymale presents a poster at the Ohio Inorganic Chemistry weekend conference, Cleveland, November 2009.

October 2009: Ed’s communication on the reaction between cob(II)alamin and superoxide is published in JACS (J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2009, 131(42), 15078).

October 2009: Riya’s article on a captopril derivative of B12 is published in Inorg. Chem. (Inorg. Chem., 2009, 48 (19), 9526).

September 2009: KSU undergraduate student Kelly Wagner joins the group. Welcome Kelly!

August 2009: Dr. Brasch is invited to give an oral presentation at the “Vitamin B12 & Corphins” Gordon research conference, Oxford, UK.

Kimille GarciaJuly 2009: Kamille Garcia from Ventura College, CA, who is carrying out NSF-REU sponsored research in the Brasch Group this summer, is one of two KSU REU students selected to give an oral presentation at the 2009 Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Research Symposium.

July 2009: Riya Mukherjee is awarded an ACS Inorganic Division travel award to attend the National ACS meeting in Washington, DC in August to present her research on vanadium/vitamin B12 bioconjugates for the treatment of diabetes.

July 2009: Luciana’s article on the X-ray structures of ethylcobalamin and butylcobalamin is published in Inorg. Chem. (Inorg. Chem., 2009, 48(14), 6615).

Applied Photophysics SX20June 2009: The Brasch Group acquires a state-of-the-art Applied Photophysics SX20 stopped-flow spectrophotometer, capable of measuring the rates of fast (ms) reactions.

May 2009: Our article on cobalamins as potent intracellular antioxidants is published (Free Rad. Biol. Med., 2009, 47 (2), 184).

May 2009: Luciana’s article on alkylcobalamin processing in mammalian cells is published (Mol. Gen. Metab., 2009, 97, 260).

April 2009: Edward Suarez-Moreira presents a poster on his research at the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Conference in Washington, DC.

April 2009: Hanaa Hassanin and Riya Mukherjee are selected to give on oral presentation on their research at the GRC Inorganic Chemistry Graduate Student Research Symposium in Maine in June. Well done!

April 2009: Dr. Brasch is invited as the Keynote Speaker for the American Chemical Society’s 2nd Annual Western New York Undergraduate Chemistry Research Symposium, Buffalo, April 2009.

Jermey RoughtonFebruary 2009: The Brasch Group is awarded $398,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to carry out mechanistic studies on the reactions of vitamin B12 with nitrogen oxide species.

Dalton-Trans-CoverJanuary 2009: Hanaa and Luciana’s article concerning structural studies on nitrosylcobalamin in solution is selected as the cover page article for Dalton Transactions! (Dalton Trans. 2009, 424). This article was also selected as a ‘Hot article’!
